Sone G Emerges Victorious

The life of a Christian has its share of challenges, something Sone G can attest to. On ‘Victorious’, his latest song, he reflects on times when his faith was questioned, but belief in God won the day.

The self-produced ‘Victorious’ was released on December 18. For the Toronto-based artist, it is a personal statement.

“It is coming from seasons where it looked like defeat was inevitable, but God showed Himself strong, anyway. As a believer and as someone who’s walked through real-life battles spiritually, emotionally, and creatively, the song became a declaration rather than just music,” Sone G explained. “I wanted to capture the truth that victory doesn’t always mean the fight is over; it means God sustained you through it. The song is meant to encourage listeners to stand firm, trust God, and remember that even after trials, we rise victorious through Christ.”

‘Victorious’ is also partially inspired by Vybz Kartel, arguably the most controversial figure in dancehall history. Sone G is impressed by his positive approach since being released from prison in Jamaica in July 2024.

“Whether people agree with his past or not, his release has opened dialogue about accountability, growth, and what redemption really means in the public eye. From a broader cultural perspective, it highlights how powerful influence can be redirected and how society wrestles with separating past actions from present possibilities,” he said.

Vybz Kartel served 13 years of a life sentence for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. He was released four months after the Privy Council in the United Kingdom quashed its 2014 murder conviction and ordered Jamaica’s Court of Appeal to decide whether the deejay and his three co-accused should be retried.

Kartel has done sold-out shows in Jamaica, Canada and the United States, been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album and donated money to several charities.

Born in Clarendon parish, central Jamaica, Sone G uses secular beats to get the Word across to fans. In September, his ‘Find A Way’ was nominated in the Top Trap/Fusion Dancehall Song category of the Reggae North Music Awards in Ontario. That slot went to ‘Karma’ by Skystar.
