‘This Song’s for You’, the latest album from singer/songwriter/producer Hopeton Lindo, was released on July 18 by Zojak Worldwide. Lindo, who produced six of its 10 tracks for his Irie Pen Records, says they were inspired by the lovers rock genre he was raised on in Jamaica.
The project is a long time coming.
“It’s been in the making for a while, but I was focusing on completing some other projects for my Irie Pen team first. I just felt now is the time to drop my first solo lovers rock album, especially for the ladies who are a major part of my fan base,” Lindo explained.
There are several previously released songs on ‘This Song’s for You’ including ‘Silent Consent’, ‘Favorite Girl’, ‘Hot Number’ and ‘Good Woman’. ‘Hot Number’ is one of three songs produced by Willie Lindo for Heavybeat Records. ‘Magnet’, another track on the album, is co-produced by Lindo and Syl Gordon of CellBlock Records. ‘A House Is Not a Home’, which features Marcia Griffiths, is another joint production with Gordon.
“It was my idea to record this classic with Marcia. I’ve done songs with her before and it’s always an honor to sing with the Queen; this is our first cover song and it’s extra special,” said Lindo. “The original drew my attention and I’m glad we got the opportunity to put our touch on this reggae version.”
Lindo’s hit songs as a singer include ‘Territory’ and ‘Lonely Night’, while he co-wrote ‘Telephone Love’ for JC Lodge, ‘Mr. Loverman’ for Shabba Ranks and ‘Red Rose for Gregory’ for Gregory Isaacs.
