Happy Birthday Frankie Paul!

To mark Frankie Paul’s 60th birthday, VP Records have reissued ‘Live And Love’, the legendary dancehall singer’s 1989 album. The 10-song set was released on October 24th, five days after his birth date.

‘Live and Love’ was produced by Lloyd “King Jammy” James. It has rockers like ‘Be Mine Tonight’, ‘Run Come’ and a cover of Robert Palmer’s ‘Didn’t Mean to Turn You On’.

In October, the Queens, New York-based VP Records also released ‘Alesha’ and ‘Country Man’, two singles by the singer that were produced by George Phang and Sly and Robbie, respectively.

The album and songs were originally released during a fruitful period for the gifted Paul who rose to prominence in the mid-1980s with songs like ‘I Know The Score’, ‘Cassanova’, ‘Worries in The Dance’ and ‘Sarah’.

For all his talent, the visually impaired vocalist suffered health challenges throughout his career, which led to his death in May, 2017 in Jamaica at age 51.

Frankie Paul was among a wave of dancehall singers who thrived during dancehall’s digital era. Others include Wayne Smith, Tenor Saw and Nitty Gritty, all of whom recorded for King Jammy.
