Back to Roots Rock Reggae

Natures Way Entertainment out of South Florida has released ‘Roots Rock Reggae’, a song by Zamunda and Fantan Mojah. It is the lead single from the compilation album of the same name, scheduled for release in September. The Zamunda/Fantan Mojah single was recently released.

Recorded at Tuff Gong studios in Kingston, the seven-song project also features songs from Ginjah, Iba Mahr, Turbulence and Unga Barunga. The latter, a member of Notis Heavyweight Rockaz band, also played bass on the ‘riddim’.

“We choose ‘Roots Rock Reggae’ because there’s a lot of noise in the reggae world that not enough real reggae music is being produced. So, of course we had to prove them wrong with this project and take it back to basics,” said Garfield Cowan, head of Natures Way Entertainment.

He believes the riddim’s stripped-down vibe will appeal to traditional reggae fans as well as followers of dancehall. It is Natures Way Entertainment’s first project for 2025.

Also on the the label’s cards is ‘Only Love’, a collaboration between Zamunda and Turbulence, as well as an album by Zamunda. A video for ‘Only Love’ was filmed in Trinidad and Tobago.

“This one is talking about current situations around the world and only love can heal and solve it,” said Cowan.
