For ‘Agape Love’, his eighth album, Wingy Danejah took a warts-and-all approach to writing. He wanted listeners to hear his emotions flow.
‘Agape Love’ was released on July 17 by his Danejah Boy Records. It contains 13 inspirational songs, done to dancehall, reggae and hip-hop beats.
“I wanted the album to have a calm, honest, and transparent feel. I didn’t want to hide my emotions or create something that sounded manufactured,” said Wingy Danejah. “I wanted the hurt, healing, faith, and hope to come through naturally. My goal was to make music that people don’t just hear—but truly feel,” he added. “I wanted listeners to know they’re not alone in what they’re going through.”
Kent Murphy produced ‘Agape Love’, with Wingy Danejah as executive producer. Several of its songs including ‘What the World Needs’, ‘Si Mi Yah’, ‘Letter from A Broken Heart’, ‘Down’ and God’s Plan’, were previously released.
While retaining the crossover nature of contemporary gospel, Wingy Danejah says there are differences with his previous albums.
“This album reflects a lot more growth and maturity, both vocally and personally. I’ve become more intentional with my songwriting, my delivery, and the overall sound,” he stated. “The production is on another level, and I believe every record has more depth and purpose. ‘Agape Love’ represents where I am today as an artist and as a man of faith.”
Like many neo-gospel acts from Jamaica, Wingy Danejah started his career as a dancehall artist. He continued recording music after becoming a Christian and has maintained a hectic release regimen during the past five years.
