‘Bang D Bell’, the first EP from singer Karbon, has been released by Element Music Group. It contains seven songs, six of which have been on the market since 2018 when the roots artist launched his recording career.
The lone new song is ‘Earth A Bleed’, co-produced by Element Music Group and Clive Hunt. The latter’s impressive credits include albums and songs by The Abyssinians, Alpha Blondy and Mystic Revealers.
Karbon, who is from Manchester parish in rural Jamaica, spoke to this column about getting his first major project out.
“The feeling I get from releasing my first EP is like nostalgia in the form of Kujichagulia (self-determination). Kujichagulia is a symbol from the West African principles and culture known as Akan. It’s just I ‘n’ I being responsible for the choices of our life and making them properly,” he said.
Other songs on ‘Bang D Bell’ are ‘Lion Roar’, ‘Hesitate’, ‘Journey’ and ‘Top Balla’ which announced him as an artist to watch. Karbon, whose influences include Peter Tosh, Vaughn Benjamin of Midnite, Garnet Silk, Tenor Saw and Sugar Minott, gave reasons for their re-release.
“I felt they never got the promotion they should have, so I don’t think it has reached enough ears and hearts. That’s why I chose one new track amongst those already released so that I could gain more recognition for my first compilation,” he said.
