Prayers for D Major

Many artists refer to their latest songs as their best yet. For D Major, his EP, ‘Morning Prayer’, projects an outlook driven by spirituality.

The six-song mini-set was released on March 22. It features the title song, which borrows the melody of ‘Tom’s Diner’, a massive hit for American singer Suzanne Vega in 1987. ‘Unstoppable’, another song from ‘Morning Prayer’, is produced by none other than superstar sprinter, Usain Bolt.

D Major, whose hit singles include ‘People Make the World go Round’ and ‘Can’t Get Enough’, says ‘Morning Prayer’ sums up his current state of mind. “It’s where my mindset is, my direction. It’s all about righteousness and life,” he said.

The singer added that the decision to use ‘Tom’s Diner’s melody was not scripted. He and producer, singjay Busy Signal, agreed to revisit the catchy beat while in the studio.

“That was just on the spot. When I heard the ‘riddim’, the producer Busy Signal and I were in the studio. I just started humming that melody and it just fit the riddim. I decided to go in front of the microphone and put my words to it, and it worked seamlessly,” D Major explained.

‘Unstoppable’ was released in 2023. It is D Major’s first collaboration with Bolt, who won the 100 and 200 meters at three consecutive Olympic Games. D Major has known the legendary athlete before his career took off at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, and once trained with Bolt’s Racers track club to keep his fitness club.
