It’s Time for Wayne Wonder

Wayne Wonder’s bountiful catalog contains some of the biggest tracks in modern dancehall music, including ‘Saddest Day of My Life’, ‘Joyride’ and ‘No Letting Go’. Recently, the singer was approached to lend his voice to a song with a serious message.

The veteran artist is one of the lead acts on ‘Because It’s Time’, a multi-artist song by White Flag. It was released on December 1 and is co-produced by Jamaican Sean Roy Strachan, who brought Wayne Wonder into the project.

Drawn to its anti-violence/global unity message, Wonder readily accepted.  “I’m fully on board with this project, we all need peace in di world. Di gang violence in Jamaica, di gang violence in Latin American countries, di total chaos. We need something to soothe that,” he said.

‘Because It’s Time’ was recorded in four languages by 16 artists. It also features Vincentian artiste Kevin Lyttle, Jamaican American rapper Sean Kingston and Grammy-nominated American singer Mya. In 2011, Wonder and Mya collaborated with Strachan on the remix to ‘If I Ever’.

‘Because It’s Time’ closes a productive year for Wayne Wonder, whose career started in the late 1980s, and took off during the 1990s with fruitful stints at Penthouse Records and Madhouse Records.  In early December, he performed on the Welcome To Jamrock Cruise and popular Footloose show in Jamaica.
