It’s a Sister Carol, Nakeeba Amaniyea Reunion

Although she talks of “passing the baton” with ‘Beyond the Sky’, her latest album, Sister Carol says it does not mean it’s time to throw in the towel.

‘Beyond The Sky’ will be released on September 19th by VPAL Music, an affiliate of VP Records.  It is a collaboration with Nakeeba Amaniyea, the veteran deejay’s daughter. The lead single is the title song.

“I’m not thinking about retirement now but we also know only salvation lasts forever. This album is very important to me because my offspring has joined me on this one,” said Sister Carol. “I also get to introduce her and her remarkable talent to the world.”

This is the most comprehensive project for mother and daughter who previously worked on songs like ‘Be Alone’. They co-produced the 13-song set for their Black Cinderella Records and YeYeX label.

In addition to ‘Beyond the Sky’, the album contains covers of Dennis Brown’s ‘Melting Pot’ and the Paul Simon classic, ‘Mother and Child Reunion’, which Sister Carol and Nakeeba Amaniyea recorded as ‘Muma and Pickney Reunion’.

Born in West Kingston, Jamaica, Sister Carol was raised in Brooklyn, New York where she juggled studies at City College of New York and cutting her teeth on the Big Apple sound system scene.  She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1997 for ‘Lyrically Potent’.
