Horace Martin

Born on May 5, 1958, in Kingston, Jamaica, Horace Martin’s musical journey began under the influence of reggae legends like Dennis Brown and Horace Andy. By the late 1970s, Martin’s talent caught the attention of Laurel Benjamin (“Dentlock”), a dentist-turned-producer based in Orange Street, Kingston. Benjamin facilitated the release of several of Martin’s early songs. Notably, during this period, a roots reggae album featuring Horace alongside Dennis Williams and Burford Gordon surfaced on the London label Big Ben Records. Horace’s voice soared on this album’s three powerful roots tracks, showcasing not only his vocal talent but also demonstrating his skills as a socially-conscious lyricist.
