Celebrating someone else’s success is difficult for some people, but not Honey B. The American singer’s latest song, ‘Happy for You’, expresses joy for the achievements of family and friends.
Produced by Lloyd Shaw for Issachar Muzik, the track is scheduled for release on January 17 and kicks off the California-born artist’s 2025 campaign.
“The message (behind ‘Happy for You’) is that true happiness and genuine self-acceptance can be found when we appreciate the accomplishments of the people around us. The song presents an opportunity for a beneficial attitude adjustment: when you find yourself surrounded by the success of others, feel inspired, not discouraged, because whether your name is on the achievement or someone else is, we can all tap into that triumphant feeling of a job well done,” Honey B explained.
On ‘Happy for You’, she is backed by the legendary Roots Radics, one of reggae’s most prolific bands. Their patented sound provides the perfect backdrop for Honey B to get her positive theme across.
Raised in the San Francisco Bay area, Honey B’s introduction to reggae came as a child in Jamaica where her mother was a schoolteacher for 10 years. She cites Bunny Wailer, Sister Carol, Brigadier Jerry and Super Cat as her biggest musical influences.
‘Honey’, ‘I Only Belong to You’ and ‘Good Energy’ are some of Honey B’s previous songs. She also performs regularly in California and Oregon, states traditionally receptive to roots-reggae.
Honey B believes many people can identify with her latest song.
“I think anyone in the public eye has experienced it. Sometimes sabotage and criticism can even come from your inner circle. For me, the idea is to maintain personal integrity, and don’t compromise your principles, because sometimes a hater or critic can later become a friend or fan,” she said.
