Grammy Ceremony Heads to Kingston

The second Grammy Certificates Ceremony takes place in Kingston, Jamaica on September 13. Organizers Back 2 Da Future Music Limited out of London will honor stalwarts who worked on Grammy-winning or Grammy-nominated projects.

This year, there are 27 recipients including musicians/producers Steely and Clevie, who produced numerous hit songs during the 1980s and 1990s: TOK, Romain Virgo and Heather Cummings.

Kennedy Mensah, head of Back 2 Da Future Music Limited, is looking forward to the show. He said there was enthusiastic response to the 2024 events which took place in Florida, Kingston and London.

“There’s always room for improvement, there’s always ways you can improve execution and planning, but as to the reception from the recipients it was glorious. I can’t say from all, but most,” Mensah stated.

The documents are certified by the Recording Academy which organises the annual Grammy Awards. They officially recognize the contributions of persons to albums and songs, many of whom never got credit for their work.

A former journalist with The Voice newspaper, the London-born Mensah started Back 2 Da Future Music Limited 20 years ago. The publishing company represents artists, musicians and producers in the United Kingdom, Africa and Jamaica.

Among those honored in 2024 were keyboardist Ansel Collins and guitarist Rad Bryan, who were members of The Revolutionaries, house band at Channel One studio in Kingston during the 1970s. Bryant received seven certificates in Plantation, Florida.

Singer Chevelle Franklyn, saxophonist/producer Dean Fraser, producers Donovan Germain, Clive Hunt and Lloyd “King Jammy” James, bassist Ranchie McLean and guitarist Lloyd “Gitsy” Willis (posthumously) were honored at the ceremony in Kingston.
