‘Soul Connection’, the latest album by Ginjah, is scheduled for release on July 14 by Tad’s International Record. It has 15 songs, co-produced by Tad Dawkins and Tad Dawkins Jr.
It comes two years after ‘London Town’, the singer’s previous album. In an interview with this column, Ginjah spoke about the direction he took for his ninth album.
“Every album reflects where I am in life, and ‘Soul Connection’ represents growth, both musically and spiritually. I wanted this project to feel more personal, more mature, and more connected to real emotions,” he explained. “The melodies are richer, the lyrics go deeper, and the production has a warm, timeless reggae sound that people can truly feel.”
Since his 2021 album, ‘Ginjah the Reggae Soul Man’, he has taken a lovers rock approach to writing. Ginjah stays that course on ‘Soul Connection’, which can be heard on songs like ‘These Arms’, ‘Loving You’ and ‘Propose’.
There are two cuts of ‘Tun Up’ — one of them being a remix with Bounty Killer.
“With this album, I wanted to create music that speaks to the heart. Whether it’s love, commitment, faith, or self-discovery, every song carries a message and genuine emotion,” said Ginjah. “My goal was to make an album people can listen to from beginning to end and connect with on a deeper level.”
Drummer Kirk Bennett, guitarist Mitchum ‘Khan’ Chin, bass guitarist Donald ‘Danny Bassie’ Dennis and pianist Franklyn ‘Bubbler’ Waul are some of the musicians who played on ‘Soul Connection’.
A protege of Beres Hammond, Ginjah is known for songs such as ‘Guilty Conscience’ and ‘Sweet Killer’.
