Although he is known as one of reggae’s foremost bass guitarists, Lloyd Parks has several hit songs as an artist, the most noted being ‘Officially’ and ‘Slaving’, released during the 1970s.
Parks recently released ‘You Making me Feel Nice’, a track he recorded many years ago. The self-produced single hit the market shortly before he and his We the People Band headed to Rototom Sunsplash in Spain where they backed Ken Boothe and Marcia Griffiths.
“This is a lost and found song; it was recorded some years ago and I lose the track sheet so I couldn’t find the song and the box wasn’t marked or anything. This was a song I loved and was so excited about, that I even dreamed that I heard it playing somewhere,” Parks explained.
The veteran musician happened on the track while transferring songs from a 24-track tape to his hard drive and immediately mixed it. ‘You Making me Feel Nice’ features musicians Parks collaborated with over the years including guitarist Winston “Bo Pee” Bowen, trombonist Nambo Robinson and keyboardist Franklyn “Bubbler” Waul.
This has been a memorable year for Parks, who started his career in the late 1960s as a singer with harmony groups, The Termites and The Techniques. While he has played on countless hit songs like ‘‘Everything I Own’ by Ken Boothe and ‘Girl, I Love You’ by Horace Andy, Parks recorded songs as a singer and had a hit in the 1980s with ‘Reservation for Two’.
In July, he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Reggae Sumfest.
