Favorite Riddim Soars in Jamaica

Most reggae artists/producers who live outside of Jamaica yearn to have hit songs there. Hopeton Lindo, who is based in South Florida, is no different.

In early August, the singer-songwriter/producer topped the Jamaica Music Countdown’s (JMC) Top 10 Albums/CD Chart with ‘Favorite Riddim’, a compilation album driven by songs from artists like himself, Sanchez, Novel-T and Peter G.

It is a big deal for Lindo who earned his stripes as an artist on Jamaica’s competitive sound system circuit, and with songs including ‘Territory’ and ‘Not Another Lonely Night’. He made his name as a composer by co-writing or writing hits for JC Lodge, Gregory Isaacs, Buju Banton and Maxi Priest.

“It’s a great feeling as I know how competitive it can be, so to be accepted and approved by my country of birth is a blessing,” said Lindo.

‘The Favorite Riddim’ was released in April by his Irie Pen Records. It contains songs such as ‘Favorite Girl’ by Lindo, ‘The Best in Me’ (Sanchez), ‘I Love the Way’ (Novel-T) and ‘Not Taking No’ by Peter G.  ‘I Love the Way’ and ‘Not Taking No’ topped the South Florida Reggae Chart.

Lindo credits his association with producers like Osbourne “King Tubby” Ruddock, Gussie Clarke and Willie Lindo for his successful transition into production. Like them, he prefers to work with a stable of artists including Novel-T and Peter G.

“Producing the same artists has its advantages as I get to know them on a different level. I also enjoy breaking new artists as I love to share the blessings of the Almighty,” he said.

‘Favorite Riddim’ is currently number two on the JMC Top 10 Albums/CD chart which is operated by popular Jamaican broadcaster Richard “Richie B” Burgess.
