‘Emotions’, the latest album from veteran singer Michael Buckley, was released in March by Stingray Records out of the United Kingdom. It is produced by Carlton “Dilly” McLeod, co-founder and head of that company.
Several top artists, including Luciano and Bushman, have pointed to the husky-voiced Buckley as a major influence. While aware of this, he is eager to get his name out to a wider audience.
“I want to put a face to the voice, cause it’s been a long time I am doing it. A lot of people know (the) songs that I sing but never know it’s me. I am working hard for this album to hit as many charts as possible to open a lot more doors,” said Buckley.
Stingray Records also produced ‘I Know the King’, Buckley’s previous album which came out in 2020. That set contains a smoky cover of ‘Rainy Night in Georgia,’ made famous by soul crooner Brook Benton.
On ‘Emotions’, Buckley covers diverse ground. He honors his dancehall roots with ‘Prison no Make fi Dog’, the opening track; and shows a different side to his sound on the R&B-influenced ‘Love Emotion’. ‘Alien Woman’ and ‘Club Conversation’, other songs from the 13-song set, were previously released.
Michael Buckley is from the music-rich community of Waterhouse in Kingston, Jamaica’s capital. It’s where he launched his recording career in the late 1980s. ‘Send Another Sound Come’, his signature song, was inspired by his years working sound systems in his hometown.
