Dangerous Remix from Freemynz

The remix is one of the most effective strategies to break a song in new markets or revive its fortunes. Pop/reggae duo Freemynz are oping for both with ‘Dangerous’.

Their remix features dancehall diva D’Angel. It was released on January 6 and hears group members Shango Trex and Catapila putting a different vibe to the dance track they first released last June.

The new track is co-produced with Andre “GC” Fennell who worked on the original with Steven “Lenky” Marsden.  “The difference is the mood, the feel and the collaboration with D’Angel. She has certainly enhanced the remix we had in mind. The reason (for the remix) is because, we were hearing additional production on the original track and felt like we should just prepare for a remix once the original was released,” said New York-based Shango Trex.

He and Catapila, who lives in Japan, agreed to recruit the saucy D’Angel to enhance ‘Dangerous’ fresh direction. Working again with Los Angeles-based Fennell — whose credits include songs by Shaggy and Enrique Iglesias — they believe their objective was achieved.

“We were definitely looking for that standout, make-a-difference feel on this. So together, we came up with the idea of giving it a mixture of our Jamaican modern dancehall with a Afrobeats pop explained.

Although Freemynz officially became a group 10 years ago, Shango Trex and Catapila have known each other since the early 1990s when they were members of different bands in Japan.
