Getting fans on the dancefloor is what Curtisay intends to do with ‘Way You Whine’, an uptempo song released in April. It is produced by California-based Ahzee.
The track, according to Curtisay, captures the energy of Kingston where he was born, and Ahzee’s hometown of Los Angeles.
The “Way You Whine” was made with the ladies in mind. I just wanted to create something that makes them want to dance and feel good at the same time,” he said. “Some females complain that they love the beat of some songs, but when they listen to the lyrics it turns them off.”
‘Way You Whine’ is his first project with Ahzee, who was born in the United States to Guyanese parents. Curtisay is from the Sherlock Crescent neighborhood of Kingston, which has produced several dancehall artists, the best known being Cham. Pointing to Shabba Ranks, Super Cat and Bounty Killer as his biggest influences, he lived for many years in the United States and Canada, where his appreciation for hip hop and pop music grew.
A recording artist for over 15 years, Curtisay’s songs include ‘Seasons’, ‘Inside’ and ‘One Million’. As a songwriter, he contributed ‘Stay with Me’ to ‘The Cure’, the 2015 Grammy-nominated album from Jah Cure.
