Cocojamz Presents the Holland Bamboo

US-based Cocojamz Musik returns to the scene with ‘The Holland Bamboo’, a 10-song compilation album driven by the ‘riddim’ of the same name. It was released February 27.

The album contains songs by established acts like Lutan Fyah (‘Never Turn Up’) and Teflon Young King (‘Mankind’). There are also contributions from several upcoming artists including Lavisch (‘You Jah Jah’), Jah Malo (‘Peace and Love’) and Jah Shane (‘Unconditional Love’).

Mary Nicole “Coco” John, producer of the project, is confident Holland Bamboo packs enough punch to impact the competitive dancehall arena.

“I feel several songs on here could hit at many levels with the right push from me as a producer and the artist themselves. Anyone around the world can relate and feel the message in the music,” she said.

The Holland Bamboo has a roots-reggae vibe, different from the two previous ‘riddim’ albums Cocojamz Musik has released since the label launched almost three years ago. That’s the sound John grew up listening in Missouri, her home state.

For her third solo effort, she wanted to get back to basics with songs that saluted that genre and expressed her maturity as a producer.

“I would say, yes, I have grown a lot as a producer. With time and consistency and perseverance you move through the process naturally, and with music this is critical to the best outcome,” she said.
