Canada’s Tasjay Productions gives scholarship to GC Foster college student

Tasjay Productions Foundation recently fulfilled a major goal for the Tasjay Productions record label when they provided an additional scholarship to a brilliant, young student of G. C. Foster College in St Catherine.

The Manchester-born Delon Scott, in his second year of studies is pursuing a degree in physical education. Last year, Scott was awarded the Arthur Wint Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport that covered tuition for the remainder of his three-year programme.

James Smith, CEO of Tasjay Production, said the additional incentive provided by his company to cover other expenses, including meals, would allow Scott to focus on maintaining his 3.89 GPA, and even improving it. “It’s great to hear a young man getting good grades at the college level, because fewer young men are finishing college these days,” Smith explained. “The foundation is here to support our youth in achieving that goal, and so we are happy to help out in any way we can.”

Guidance counsellor Paul Parkes agreed, and was full of praise for Scott. “It is well deserved. This is a student who has done well academically, but he is also an individual who is selfless and will spend the time to assist others,” Parkes said at the recent handover. “If you are always giving, then it is right for you to receive.”

The Tasjay Production Foundation was founded last year based on an idea years ago from reggae artiste Rad Dixon, who is officially signed to the label. The scholarship recipient also grew up in Dixon’s parish of Manchester and was grateful to the company for their kind gesture. “I am truly honoured that you decided to offer me this donation towards my years of college education, and I know for a fact that you are going to continue to do this for other students, so I want to thank you once more,” Scott told the company.

Tasjay Productions which is already investing in Jamaica through music with their compilations featuring Anthony B, Luciano and others, as well as singles and an upcoming album from Rad Dixon. CEO James Smith sees the launch of the Tasjay Production Foundation as a dream realised and looks forward to awarding more high-achieving students at the tertiary level later this year.
