‘Blind Spot’, the new album from Ambelique, dropped on November 15. It is produced by Willie Lindo for Heavy Beat Records.
This is the veteran singer’s ninth album and his first in 20 years. His previous set, ‘Let’s Take a Chance’, was produced by Kufe Records.
“It’s taken this long (between albums) because I’ve been traveling a lot between Jamaica, America and Europe and I also know in my heart that the Lord puts us where he wants us to be. So, I never forced myself to get where we are right now, it’s manifest destiny. As we say (in Jamaica), ‘a jus suh it set’,” said Ambelique.
‘Ain’t No Love in The Heart of The City’, a cover of the Bobby Blue Bland classic, is one of the songs from ‘Blind Spot’. It was a hit in South Florida early this year.
Lindo, who has produced hit singles for J C Lodge, Boris Gardiner and Dennis Brown, also played guitar on the album. Robbie Shakespeare, who died in 2021, played bass.
“Willy is a genius and has the ability to pull the best out of whomever he is producing, so I just remained a vessel and trusted the process without timelines, expectation or anxiety knowing that this was going to be a period of growth for me and some of my best work,” said Ambelique.
Born in Kingston, Ambelique started his recording career during the 1970s, before migrating to the United States where he has lived for over 40 years. In the 1990s, he cut several Latin-styled reggae songs for Sly and Robbie.
