Montreal based Afro-pop/Afro-fusion artist Tome, with her entry I Pray featuring Sean Kingston, is the winner of 2021 JUNO awards for Best Reggae Recording. The award was handed out on Friday June 4th 2021 at the JUNO’s opening night virtual celebration, performances and awards presentations.
Tome is a Nigerian and French-Canadian artist whose sound is influenced by a wide scope of genres. Though she says she absorb music in its many forms, it is hard to ignore the Afro beats influence on almost all her songs which she pridefully says adds flare to her music and showcases who she is as an artist.
In a thank you message written on her Facebook page, Tome expressed her gratitude in receiving this year’s award. “This is meant for me. Thank you again to the JUNO awards for honouring me with the Reggae Record of the Year Award,” she said. “Sean Kingston we really did it. To the homies, the whole team and God; thank you.”
The winning entry was picked from the list of finalist that included Ammoye – Give it All, Blessed – Black Man, Dubmatix – Roots Rock, Kirk Diamond – Let it be Done.
