The 54th Annual JUNO Awards are shaping up to be an electrifying celebration of Canadian music, with the official nominations announced on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS).
Set to take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, the prestigious awards will culminate in a weekend of festivities, including The JUNO Awards Gala Presented by Music Canada on March 29 and the live broadcast of The JUNO Awards on March 30 on CBC
Among the most closely watched categories by the black community this year is Reggae Recording of the Year, a category that nearly disappeared from the 2025 awards. In September 2024, CARAS stunned the reggae music community by announcing the elimination of the category, a move that sparked immediate and widespread backlash from artists, fans, and industry professionals. The passionate response led to a swift reversal, and now, with the nominees officially revealed, the reggae community is celebrating a hard-fought victory.
The 2025 JUNO nominees for Reggae Recording of the Year are:
- Destiny – Lee “Scratch” Perry & Bob Riddim
- Born to Be Free – Exco Levi
- Fallback – King Cruff & Runkus
- Sky’s the Limit – Skystar
- Rise – Tonya P
These artists represent a dynamic mix of reggae veterans and rising stars, all bringing their unique sound and energy to the genre. The JUNO Awards will take place at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, with Canadian music icon Michael Bublé set to host.
