Wayne Wonder’s ‘No Letting Go’ has been certified platinum in the United Kingdom for sales of over 600,000 units. The certification was announced on October 18 by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
‘No Letting Go’, produced by Steven “Lenky” Marsden on his massive Diwali rhythm, was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the United States in 2022. That represents sales of over 500,000 units.
Released in 2002, ‘No Letting Go’ is Wayne Wonder’s biggest hit, peaking at number three in the UK. In the US, the song stalled at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 14 on that publication’s R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
The BPI acknowledgement is the latest accolade for the wiry singer, whose recording career started in the late 1980s. In August, he a citation from Eric Adams, mayor of New York City, for his contribution to dancehall-reggae.
‘Saddest Day of my Life’, ‘Joy Ride’, ‘Searching’, ‘Keep Them Coming’ and ‘Bonafide Love’ (with Buju Banton) are some of Wayne Wonder’s other hit songs.
The UK’s version of the RIAA, the BPI also issued a silver certification for Jimmy Cliff’s ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ for sales of 200,000 units, and a gold certification for Sean Paul’s ‘We Be Burnin’ for sales of 400,000 units.
