Unforgettable Performances, Historic Wins, and Special Honors Highlight 2024 Reggae North Music Awards

The Reggae North Music Awards lit up the stage this year, bringing together an exceptional gathering of talent from across the reggae and dancehall scene to celebrate the best in Canadian music. The evening was a dazzling display of artistry, passion, and community, punctuated by unforgettable performances and the recognition of key contributors to the genre.

The Reggae North Music Awards kicked off with a welcome message from the Deputy Consul General of Jamaica Consul: Mrs. Younna Bailey Magalhães, followed by  a soul-stirring moment, Canada’s nomadic saxophonist Isax Injah enchanted the crowd with a trance-like reggae instrumental performance, showing the depth and versatility of the genre.

A string of mesmerizing performances took place throughout the evening that kept the audience on their feet. The people’s artist, Steele, captivated the crowd with his heartfelt renditions of his latest single, “Pick up the Pieces,” and his hit “She Believes in Me.” Seven-time JUNO Award nominee Ammoye delivered an electrifying performance, showcasing the vocal talent that has made her a standout in the reggae community.

Montreal’s veteran reggae star Jah Cutta brought the house down with an energetic and commanding performance, while Vancouver’s dancehall sensation Tugstar sizzled with his hit single “Knock E Ball.” One of the evening’s standout moments was the duet between JUNO Award-winning artist Kirk Diamond and Tiffanie Malvo as they performed their JUNO-winning single “Bring it Good,” sending waves of excitement through the audience.

Mel C’s touching rendition of a song written by Caswell McLaughlin was a moving tribute to reggae and dancehall artists who have passed on, adding a reflective note to the night.

The energy soared again as Phenique and her dancers brought vibrant dancehall flavor to the stage, and Rayzalution closed the evening with a dynamic and powerful performance, capping off the night on a high note.

A particularly special moment during the ceremony was when veteran reggae artist Jimmy Reid was honored with the prestigious Reggae North Living Legend Award. This award, commemorating his remarkable 60-year career in music, served as a testament to his enduring influence and contributions to the reggae community in Canada. The audience erupted in applause as Reid took the stage, marking a highlight of the night that celebrated both the past and the future of reggae.
