President Donald Trump appeared to threaten legal action against comedian and television host Trevor Noah following a joke Noah made at the Grammy Awards.
In a statement attributed to Trump, he accused Noah of spreading misinformation and warned him to issue a retraction. Trump referred to Noah as “a total loser” and said he “better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast.”
Trump went on to suggest he would involve his lawyers, saying he planned to sue Noah and described him as “poor, pathetic, talentless.” He also referenced past legal disputes involving media figures and networks, adding, “Ask Little George Slopadopolus, and others, how that all worked out. Also ask CBS!”
The statement ended with a warning directed at Noah: “Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you!” and was signed, “President DJT (sic).”
The remarks followed a joke Noah made while hosting the Grammy Awards, shortly after Billie Eilish won Song of the Year for her track Wildflower. While congratulating the singer, Noah quipped that the award was “almost as much as Trump wants Greenland.”
He continued the joke by adding that since Jeffrey Epstein’s death, Trump “needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton,” drawing laughter from the audience but sparking backlash from Trump shortly afterward.
