Some of the toughest relationships inspired classic songs that helped define pop music. Lisa Lee recalled such a tumultuous bond for ‘The Truth’, a single she wrote and recorded with producer Blue IQ.
Released three years ago, the US-based singer re-released it recently to empathize with women who found themselves in similar situations.
According to Lisa Lee, one-sided relationships are not good.
“Being in a relationship with someone who had me, but didn’t know how to love me, was a deeply conflicting experience. I gave my softness, my loyalty, my heart — but I was in a space where love wasn’t nurtured in return,” she said. “What I wanted was simple…to feel safe enough to let my guard down, to be cherished, and to be met with the kind of care I was willing to give.”
Lee is from Spanish Town in St. Catherine parish, Jamaica and has been a member of the United States Army for six years. While introduced to music as a child in church, it was not until three years ago that she first entered the recording booth.
‘The Truth’, she believes, has a message that resonates with women who have come out at the wrong end of a disastrous relationship.
“I believe a lot of women can relate to this — the inner battle between wanting to surrender in love yet having to armor up because the environment doesn’t feel emotionally safe,” said Lisa Lee. “I’m learning now that love isn’t just about presence; it’s about intention, consistency, and emotional safety. And I won’t settle for less again.”
