A remastered version of ‘Mi Go Through Dat’, the 2005 album by roots artist Determine, will be re-released on March 21 by Tad’s International Record, the company that released it 20 years ago.
The 19-song set was produced by Determine, who died from stomach cancer on February 13th in the United States at age 52. He is best known for ‘Kette Drum’, the 1995 hit song with Beenie Man.
Tad Dawkins, principal of Tad’s International Record, said Determine approached him 20 years ago about distributing the album.
“It was his idea. He visited the Miami office to check out the prospect for Tad’s Record to distribute his album and without hesitation I agreed,” said Dawkins, who described the sound and texture of ‘Mi Go Through Dat’ as “excellent.”
The album includes songs like ‘Go Through Dat’, ‘Down the Lane’ (a collaboration with Cocoa Tea and Cudjoe Rubber), ‘Nice to Love’, ‘Weep Not’ and ‘Live Up’, which he recorded with Louie Culture and Lucan I.
Determine hailed from Annotto Bay, a seaside town in rural St. Mary parish in eastern Jamaica. ‘Kette Drum’, produced by Bobby Digital was his third released song. It sailed to the top of the charts 30 years ago along with other songs on the catchy Nyahbinghi ‘riddim’ of the same title.
It produced other hit songs by Cocoa Tea (‘Holy Mount Zion’) and Buju Banton (‘Til I’m Laid to Rest’).
