‘Not Forbidden’, the latest song by singer Empress Uneek, is scheduled for release on May 27 by Tell Dem Music, a South Florida-based company. It is produced by that label’s founder, Michael “Mikey Shines” Stewart.
It is the company’s first production for 2025, which Stewart expects to be a busy one, with songs by veteran artists Mikey Spice and Wayne Wade also on the cards. He said, ‘Not Forbidden’ expresses ‘humbleness’ and “if you apply yourself things will work out.”
The song features bass guitarist Chris Meredith, who died in 2022. Meredith, who was a member of Ziggy Marley and The Melody Makers and Stephen Marley’s bands, also played on several Tell Dem Music productions.
Stewart — a Jamaican who has been producing music for over 30 years — added saxophonist Dean Fraser to the track for extra flavor.
“That gave it a little tweak to bring it to where it is now,” he said.
Empress Uneek was born in The Bahamas but raised in New York City and South Florida. She has lived in the latter for many years, recording songs for singer/producers Hopeton Lindo and Ed Robinson.
‘Not Forbidden’ is also the artist’s first song for the year. It will coincide with the release of ‘Reclaimed’, her first book.
