Sunny Times for Wormbass

As someone who grew up on lovers rock, Wormbass knows the grooves of that genre’s classic songs inside out. ‘Sunshine’, his latest song, is a shout out to reggae’s softer side.

Wormbass co-produced the single with Michael Jacas. It was released May 10.

“I did go for the lovers rock sound deliberately, because there is too much confusion going on right now in terms of how the music is presented. These days, nobody wants to love anymore, so I figure I’ll go for something smooth, you know, like how I saw my mom and Dad was when I was growing up,” he explained.

‘Sunshine’ is Wormbass’ first solo project in some time. The past two years has seen him working on a new album as well as playing bass for fellow artists.

The lanky musician is from St. Thomas parish in eastern Jamaica. His big break came as a member of the Blaze Band, best known for backing Beenie Man during the 1990s.

Wormbass has also recorded songs as a singer. ‘Follow You’ and ‘Royalty’ are two of his previous songs while ‘Reggaeman’, his only album, was released in 2015.

In recent years, Wormbass has toured and recorded with roots collective, Inna De Yard. He played on ‘Family Affair’, that group’s 2023 album.
