Starr Trilli Does the Money Dance

Weaned on the songs of fellow Bahamians K.B. and Nishie L.S., Starr Trili never limited her musical tastes to the Iocal Junkanoo and Rake and Scrape. In fact, for most of the eight years she has been a recording artist, hip hop has been her sound of choice.

On ‘Money Dance’, her latest song, Starr Trilli shows her dancehall chops. Released in September, it is produced by Barry St. Louis, another native of The Bahamas.

“I most definitely love making dancehall music, because it gives me more freedom as an outright rap artist to become more diverse, creative, and authentic,” she said. “A lot of listeners and legends within the music world have told me that I am a ‘powerhouse’ and that my music is different and unique.”

Starr Trilli was prompted to record ‘Money Dance’ after seeing the positive response to ‘What A Gwan’ (remix), her collaboration with Jamaican deejay Max Wayne. They met on TikTok, which Max Wayne used to recruit an artist that would enhance the remix to the song he recorded solo in 2025.

Bitten by the dancehall bug, Starr Trilli has put hip hop on pause for now.

“So far, I have written five dancehall songs, and ‘Money Dance’ is another expression of that versatility and creative journey,” she said.

Born in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Starr Trilli’s musical palette is whetted by diverse sounds. Those include classic American soul (Chaka Khan) and pop (Nicki Minaj); as well as dancehall acts like Vybz Kartel and Spice.

According to YouTube figures, ‘Money Dance’ has earned over 185,000 views since its release.
