On Saturday, June 8, the Rastafest Singing Competition reached its thrilling conclusion. This year’s event started with 15 talented contestants, all aspiring to be named the Rastafest Singing Champion for 2024. While only one winner emerged, each participant earned a coveted spot on the Rastafest summer festival lineup slated for August 16th and 17th.
The competition featured weekly performances and eliminations, with judges based outside of Canada ensuring impartiality. After three weeks of intense competition, four finalists remained: Abeena, Sara, Gavin, and Llie Kochie. These talented singers prepared to showcase their skills in the final showdown.
Each finalist performed three songs, captivating the audience with their exceptional talent and stage presence. The energy was palpable as the crowd cheered and applauded, reflecting their enjoyment of the performances. Abeena, Sara, Gavin, and Llie Kochie each brought their best to the stage, making the competition incredibly close.
Ultimately, it was Sara who triumphed, delivering stunning renditions of songs by Mariah Carey, Etana, and another selected piece. Her powerful performances resonated with both the judges and the audience, securing her the top spot in the competition.
The conclusion of the Rastafest Singing Competition was a satisfying and memorable event. The four finalists, including winner Sara, will now move on to perform on the main stage at the Rastafest Music Festival on August 17th at the Green P Parking lot on Eglinton Ave West.
