Sampalue Salutes Tosh

Basking in the positive response to his second album, Sampalue is scheduled to perform on the 38th annual Peter Tosh Birthday Celebration, which takes place on October 19 at Ashkenaz Music and Dance Community Centre in Berkeley, California.

This event acknowledges the legacy of Tosh, who was murdered at his home in Kingston, Jamaica in September 1987. An original member of The Wailers along with Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer, he was 42 years old.

“If you are a true fan of reggae, then it must give you great pleasure to be able to be a part of paying homage to one of reggae’s greatest icons. This is my second time gracing the stage at Ashkenaz and being part of this celebration,” said Sampalue. “My first was in 2017 when I was just an act on the bill. Now in 2025, I am the closing act, and this is a clear indication of my growth.”

That growth is also evident on ‘Unmistakable’, his album which was released in April. ‘Left With a Broken Heart’, lead single from that 14-song set, clocked three weeks at number one on the Foundation Radio Network Chart in August and September.

Several roots-reggae acts are on the Peter Tosh Birthday Celebration. They include Jahdan Blakkamoore, Jahwarri and Sister Alreca, all of whom will be backed by The Bricyard Band.

Sampalue, who hails from the music-rich community of West Kingston, made his name as a producer before launching his artist career in 2018. The following year, he released ‘Straight Outta Hannah Town’, his first album.
