Reggae Veteran Vernon Maytone Takes the Stage at BSMT 254

This Saturday night, November 25, promises to be a reggae extravaganza as the seasoned veteran, Vernon “Maytone” Buckley, graces the stage at BSMT 254. The event, featuring the Dub Chronicles and special guest Cindy Craig, alongside Selector Engine 69 from Montreal, the event will be hosted by the charismatic Clifton Joseph.

Vernon Maytone’s contribution to the Foundation Road of Reggae is nothing short of legendary. As one-half of The Mighty Maytones, alongside Gladstone Grant, Maytone produced timeless music in the late ’60s and throughout the ’70s, much of which remains relevant today.

Having migrated to Canada in 1980, Maytone embarked on a solo career in 1981-1982. His collaboration with the Canadian group Bedouin Soundclash further solidified his status in the reggae scene. Notably, in 2004, Maytone re-recorded his hit song ‘Money Worries’ on the Bedouin Soundclash CD, ‘Sounding a Mosaic’, achieving significant success in Canada, Europe, and beyond. The track gained additional exposure when featured in the TV series “Falcon Beach.”

Maytone’s influence continued with his contribution to the Bedouin Soundclash CD ‘Street Gospel’, where he lent his talent to tracks ‘Higher Ground’ and ‘Jealousy’.  In 2008, his song ‘One Way’ on Bedouin Soundclash’s ‘Lullaby’ CD gained popularity, featuring in the movie “Nurse Fighter Boy” and the TV series “Da Kink in my Hair.”

The reggae veteran’s enduring hit, ‘Money Worries’, even found its way into the film industry, being featured in the Matt Damon movie “Downsizing.” Over the years, Maytone has been recognized for his contributions, earning two gold records and one Platinum.
