MELLO G, a revered figure in the Canadian reggae scene with a residency in Montreal spanning over three decades, returns with a revitalizing EP titled ‘Journey in Roots’.
Following his 2017 release, ‘The Journey Continues’, Mello G sought inspiration by returning to his native Jamaica to replenish his creative energy and cultivate new material. Now, with ‘Journey in Roots’, he continues his musical journey, infusing his compositions with messages of hope and optimism.
Mello G’s signature smooth vocals and lyrics promoting peace, harmony, and mutual support are complemented by the musical talents of Martinican brothers Thomas Richol (known as SPEEDHIGH) and Daniel Richol (known as DAHBASS), as well as his long-time collaborator Garnett “Bobby” Pottinger (Bobby Magical). Bobby Magical not only contributes to the music but also handles production and mixing alongside Master G.
The EP serves as a homage to roots reggae, enriched with rhythms drawn from the traditional “Nyabinghi” percussions that shaped Mello G’s upbringing. Featuring four original tracks and two dub versions, ‘Journey in Roots’ offers six songs of pure listening pleasure.
Dub versions ‘Mountain Dub’ by Bobby Magical and ‘Stormy Dub’ by the esteemed DUBMATIX, renowned for his numerous JUNO awards and nominations, add depth and diversity to the EP.
The EP’s lead single, ‘Stormy Weather Oh Jah’, released in February, has been met with enthusiastic reception on radio stations worldwide, including Jamaica’s preeminent IRIE FM. GT Taylor, a legendary Jamaican promoter, has hailed Mello G as a formidable presence in the industry, describing the track as “major” and predicting its global impact.
‘Journey in Roots’ is now available for purchase and streaming on all major online platforms, inviting listeners to embark on a musical journey infused with positivity and rhythm.
