This new award show, organized by Reggae North Canada Inc., aims to celebrate the talent and contributions of Canadian reggae and dancehall artists, and many in the community are excited to see how it will be received.

“It’s a good look, Canada needs something like this. I will be there for sure,” said Edmonton-based dancehall artist Skystar. Toronto’s Steele, affectionately known as “The People’s Artist,” shared similar sentiments, stating, “If we want it, we have to build it one block at a time. This is a celebration of our local talent who have been keeping Canada on the map.”
The event promises to be a major celebration of reggae and dancehall, with many notable artists from across the country nominated in various categories. One of the key highlights of the RNMA is the number of submissions and nominations received from reggae and dancehall artists outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), a promising sign of the genre’s national reach.
RNMA President Mark “Tony Anthony” Bennett commented on this, saying, “One of the more positive things about The Reggae North Music Awards this year is that artists from all over Canada have sent in submissions, were nominated and are participating in the show. We are thrilled to have them here.” This inclusivity addresses long-standing concerns from artists living outside the GTA, who often feel excluded from major reggae and dancehall events in Canada.
Several artists will take the stage as performers, including Montreal’s Jah Cutta, Edmonton’s Tugstar, Steele, Ammoye, Kirk Diamond, Phenique, Isax Injah, Mel C and Razalution. The impressive lineup reflects the diversity and richness of Canada’s reggae and dancehall scene.
The Reggae North Music Awards will open its doors at 4 PM, with the show starting at 6 PM, promising a night of celebration and recognition for Canadian reggae and dancehall talent.
