Rebuilding Jamaica with E-Dee

Moved by the destruction Hurricane Melissa caused in his native Jamaica, E-Dee wrote and recorded ‘We A Rebuild’, a song hailing the recovery currently taking place in the country.

The artist/actor produced the song for his Clarendon Records, the company he launched this year. Clarendon is the name of his home parish, located in central Jamaica. While not as badly damaged as other regions, it took a considerable hit when the Category 5 Melissa touched down on October 28.

“Several family members including my sisters and brothers were affected. My sister, Lorraine Dennis in Montego Bay, had it the worst. Toll Gate (his hometown) Clarendon wasn’t as bad, a few of my brothers’ roofs blew off, but it was replaced quickly,” E-Dee reported.

He said sales from ‘We A Rebuild’ will be donated to the relief effort back home. Hurricane Melissa decimated the parishes of St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St. James and Trelawny. Forty-five people were killed, with thousands left homeless, while infrastructure, hospitals and resort hotels sustained major damage.

The Los Angeles-based E-Dee has established himself as a top act in that city’s dancehall scene. In addition to recording three albums and three EPs, he has appeared in several movies such as ‘Out the Gate’, ‘Mother-in-Law’ and ‘Temperature Rising’.
