Peter G is on a high! The singer’s ‘Not Taking No’ has been number one on the South Florida Reggae Chart for the last three weeks, the third chart-topper in that region for the Jamaican singer.
Produced by Hopeton Lindo ‘Not Taking No’ is from the ‘Favorite ‘riddim’ compilation album which was released in February by Lindo’s Irie Pen Records.
“It brings a sense of achievement and recognition for the hard work and dedication that was brought to the project by producer Hopeton Lindo and the Irie Pen crew, Heavybeat crew (who played the Favorite riddim) and all artists who were part of this project. I am truly grateful for the fans and the various Disc Jockeys from all over the world who embraced and played this song,” said Peter G.
Being number one in South Florida is familiar territory for the veteran vocalist, who previously topped the same chart with ‘Grown Woman’, a collaboration with Lindo; and ‘Love Won’t Let Us Wait’ with Novel-T.
Since the 1990s, Peter G has recorded with established producers including Sly and Robbie and Mikey Bennett. In recent years, he has found success with Lindo, who emerged as a potent singer-songwriter during the 1980s and 1990s.
No matter the director, the approach to recording is consistent.
“My typical approach is getting the riddim and then vibing to it in order to write the lyrics with the hope that it will resonate with my fans and reggae music lovers all over the world. The demo is then sent to the producer for feedback before going into the studio to do the recording,” said Peter G.
