Out of Grief, Art Emerges: Indierootz Records Presents “Womban”

Indie Rootz Records, a Montreal-based record label, has announced the upcoming unveiling of “Womban” – an evening dedicated to raising awareness about ovarian cancer. Scheduled for May 17, 2024, at the Jamaica Association of Montreal, this event aims to immerse attendees in artistic expression while shedding light on the formidable health challenge posed by ovarian cancer.

Ten remarkable women are set to take the stage, showcasing their talents in spoken word, comedy, and music. The event will serve as a platform for Ovarian Cancer Canada to disseminate crucial information to individuals, families, and the wider community. All proceeds from the event will be directed to Ovarian Cancer Canada, supporting ongoing efforts to combat the illness.

The inspiration behind “Womban” stems from the personal experience of Brian Kotler, the visionary founder of Indie Rootz Records. Following the passing of his sister, Donna Kotler, Brian felt compelled to channel his grief into a force for awareness and action. Through fundraising initiatives like “Womban,” he hopes to honor Donna’s memory and contribute to the fight against ovarian cancer.

Throughout the evening, attendees can expect captivating performances interwoven with presentations by representatives from Ovarian Cancer Canada. Heartfelt testimonials from individuals confronting the realities of cancer will also be shared, promising moments of profound reflection and invaluable learning opportunities.

Culinary delights from Jamaica will be available to complement the festivities, ensuring a memorable experience for all in attendance. Admission to the event is free, with donations gratefully accepted. Representatives from Ovarian Cancer Canada will be on-site to receive donations in person, with tax receipts promptly issued for contributions exceeding $20, offering attendees the option to dedicate their donation “In memory of Donna Kotler.”
