As Jamaicans at home and abroad celebrated the island’s 60th year of Independence on August 6, those in Niagara Falls were treated to a special illumination of Jamaican colours on the Falls to mark the occasion.
Hundreds of people stood, enjoyed, and applauded the fireworks and witnessed the red, green, and gold colors cast upon the roaring waters of the greatest waterfall in the world.
Onlookers expected to see the colors of the Jamaican Flag as was announced but were treated to the colors that usually represent the Jamaican music culture.
Earlier in the evening, the Jamaica Tourist Board and the Consul General of Jamaica hosted a special Jamaica Diamond Jubilee Independence reception to mark the 60th anniversary. Guests attended the cocktail reception at the Marriott Fallsview Hotel as they awaited the illumination of the Falls later in the night.
Those in attendance came out beautifully clad in their national colors, were treated to food and drinks, and entertained with festive music suited for the occasion. Pictured below are pictures of a few of the attendees
