Rubbing shoulders with mega stars like Sting and Shaggy was not in Johnoy Williams’ thoughts while studying to become an actor at the School of Drama in Kingston, Jamaica. But for the past 10 years, he has worked with dancehall’s elite artists on their music videos.
Known as TV Boss, his latest gig was ‘Til A Mawnin’, the music video for Sting and Shaggy’s latest collaboration. Directed by fellow Jamaican Jay Will, it was filmed in Brooklyn, New York. “It was a great vibe, everyone was professional an’ things ran smoothly. It was great being around two icons and working with Jay Will was what I expected it to be,” said TV Boss.
‘Til A Mawnin’ marked a personal milestone for the actor. It is his 30th music video and the latest featuring Grammy Award winners. He also appeared in the visual for ‘Rock Stone’, multiple Grammy winner Stephen Marley’s song that features Capleton and Sizzla. TV Boss’ credits also include a role in Busy Signal’s ‘Stay So’ video.
He got stung by the acting bug while at high school in his native Portland, a scenic parish in eastern Jamaica. His breakthrough came as a cast member of ‘The Ity and Fancy Cat Show’, a popular comedy television series that aired on Television Jamaica.
Ten years ago, TV Boss made his music video debut in ‘True Colours’ by Jahmiel.
