MG Liz Feels the Love

January 16th marks a major milestone for Jamaican singer MG Liz. This is the day ‘Love Up’, her first song, is being released. The roots-reggae single is a collaboration with self-proclaimed chanter Derajah, who co-produced it with multi-instrumentalist Bruno Dupre from Brazil.

‘Love Up’ is one of the songs Kingston-born MG Liz has recorded over the past two years. She feels relieved to finally get off the mark.

“I’m incredibly excited right now, I have butterflies in my stomach. This is such a significant moment for me and for the work I’ve been applying myself to. It feels like giving birth to a song, to a project,” she said.

MG Liz disclosed that she has been active in recording studios since 2025, writing and recording songs. ‘Love Up’, which features Dupre on bass, guitar, horns and drums, hears her singing complemented by a rap-like toast from Derajah.

“We’ve been working on this for quite a while, and now it’s finally time to share it with the world, to put it out there for people to hear and respond to what I’ve been creating,” she stated.

On most of the songs she has recorded to date, MG Liz was guided by Derajah, a seasoned artist who has a following in Europe and Brazil through songs like ‘Who Yeah Yah’ and ‘The Time is Now’.

For MG Liz, ‘Love Up’ is a sign of things to come.

“The process is ongoing. I’m in the studio every week, constantly working and creating. The ideas just keep flowing, so we continue recording,” she said.
