From the hills of Clarendon, Jamaica to the vibrant music scene of Montreal, veteran reggae artist Mello G is once again spreading uplifting messages through music with the release of his new album, “More Blessings.” Following the success of his 2024 EP “Journey in Roots,” the Canadian reggae mainstay continues his mission of creating conscious, authentic reggae music rooted in hope, resilience, love, and unity.
Inspired by legendary icons such as Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and Freddy McGregor, Mello G blends powerful storytelling with soulful vocals across an album filled with positive energy and spiritual reflection. Backed by sweeping productions from longtime collaborator Garnett “Bobby” Pottinger alongside Master G, ‘More Blessings’ moves effortlessly from classic one-drop reggae and dancehall to afrobeat influences and unexpected groovy rhythms.
The album features ten original tracks and four dub versions, including standout songs like “Freedom for the World,” “Jah is Vex,” “Broken Sign,” “Hard Knock Life (Remix),” “Struggling Man,” and “Worthy to Be Praised.” Legendary Jamaican broadcaster and IRIE FM co-founder Roy “GT The Dancehall Master” Taylor has already praised the project as “a true gem.”
Two singles from the album are already making waves internationally. “Freedom for the World” became a trending reggae favorite following its release last year, while the newly released “Jah is Vex” is quickly being hailed as a future reggae anthem. Produced and mixed at Trinity Studio in Montreal by Garnett “Bobby” Pottinger and Master G, “More Blessings” captures the essence of roots reggae while embracing contemporary sounds and global influences. The album closes with four unique dub versions of “Jah is Vex,” “What a Day,” “I Am Bless,” and “Lite It,” each offering its own distinct musical flavor.
