Lazo and Exodus Delivers Electrifying Bob Marley Tribute

On Saturday, February 11th, Toronto’s Lee’s Palace was the place to be for any Bob Marley fan, as the annual birthday celebration for the King of reggae was presented by NUFUNK.ca. The event featured Reggaddiction and culminated in an amazing live tribute to Bob Marley by Lazo and Exodus.

The night started off with a beautiful rendition of ‘Redemption Song’ by Reggaddiction, featuring lead singer Dave Matthews(aka D.M). The performance was captivating, with Matthews’ soulful and powerful vocals accompanied by the melodic rhythms of the band. It was a great way to kick off the night and set the tone for what would be an unforgettable celebration of Bob Marley’s music.

An impromptu appearance by Friendlyness from The Human Rights band, who joined Reggaddiction on stage and delivered a high-energy version of ‘Get Up, Stand Up.’ The crowd was in a frenzy, dancing and singing along to the positive and uplifting lyrics. It was a great moment that captured the essence of Bob Marley’s music and message.

 

The crowd buzzed with excitement and anticipation for the arrival of Lazo and Exodus, and they did not disappoint. When Lazo and his band took the stage, they immediately launched into the classic ‘Play I Some Music’, setting the packed venue alight with energy and excitement. The crowd sang and danced along to every song, showing their appreciation for the music and the legacy of Bob Marley.

Lazo’s vocals were on point, hitting every note with ease and delivering the lyrics with passion and conviction. He was backed by the talented musicians of Exodus, including Sam Weller on keyboards, Charles Sinclair on bass, Orville Malcolm on keyboards, Tony Barrett on lead guitar, Kofi Ackah on drums, and Tricia Campbell and Hermania George on background vocals. The band was tight, delivering the deep grooves and infectious rhythms that are the hallmark of reggae music.

The setlist was a mix of classic Bob Marley tracks and some newer material. The crowd went wild for “Exodus,” “Jamming,” “I Shot the Sheriff,” “Is This Love,” “Trenchtown Rock,” “Waiting in Vain,” and “Punky Reggae Party,” among others. Lazo and his band brought their own unique style to the songs, while staying true to the spirit and essence of Bob Marley’s music.

The intermissions were filled with roots reggae music played by Pressure Drop Selectas, keeping the energy level high and the vibe positive. A few resident Canadian artists like Jay Douglas, Comf4th, Korexion, Sassafras, Papa Levy and DJ Chocolate were in attendance, also paying tribute to Bob Marley, adding to the overall celebration of his life and music.

The 17th annual Bob Marley birthday celebration presented by NUFUNK.ca was a great event that showcased the enduring legacy and influence of Bob Marley on reggae music. Lazo and Exodus delivered an incredible live tribute, leaving the packed venue dancing and singing along to the timeless rhythms and lyrics of the king of reggae. The night was a testament to the power of the music and the spirit of love, unity, and positivity that Bob Marley stood for.
