Friends for over many years, Gothic and Teebone never thought about recording a song together until last June when they were in Panama. The deejays agreed it was time to share the mic, with the result being ‘Oxygen’.
Once they returned to Jamaica, they recorded the uptempo track which is produced by Grabba Taylor Ent. ‘Oxygen’ was released in October.
“I’m pleased with how ‘Oxygen’ came out because as you know that’s Teebone and he’s a very well-known artist, and I knew him for a very long time before music as well,” said Gothic. “It was very easy for us because we were both in the studio at the time, and both of us have a high energy. I understood the assignment and got it done.”
Gothic and Teebone are from gritty communities in Montego Bay. They launched their recording careers 10 years ago and have recorded many hardcore dancehall songs for different producers.
In recent months, Gothic has collaborated with Latin artists, seeking to break into the lucrative reggaeton market. Those hybrid songs include ‘Rodando En La City’ and ‘Braff’ which are marketed by Empress Ann Recordz, his management.
With ‘Oxygen’, he and Teebone are hoping to reach fans with indiscriminate tastes.
“I won’t say I’m looking for a particular audience, because I would love for everyone to listen and vibe to it. Based on the creativity of the song and the vibe, I would say it’s more for the streets, parties, dancers and the younger audience,” said Gothic.
