‘Rooted Betrayal’, a psychological thriller starring Jamaican Fernando Edwards, debuts March 25 on Amazon Prime and Tubi. Edwards is also the 30-minute film’s director and producer.
It is Edwards’ biggest project since arriving in Hollywood 10 years ago with minimal experience or knowledge of the film industry. He stars as Andre alongside Suely Ramos, Daniel Gilfillian and Marissa Ford.
Edwards, who is from Portmore in St. Catherine parish, said it took him two years to complete ‘Rooted Betrayal’ which he also funded. He has plans for two other projects this year — a six-episode series based on ‘Rooted Betrayal’ and a potential television series called ‘Domino Effect’ which has a Jamaican flavor.
He is relieved the film will finally be shown. “It is an amazing feeling getting the project on screen. More amazing, is the information it takes and the work that goes into understanding all the resources to get it on the screen and all its requirements,” Edwards explained.
After graduating from Missouri Baptist University where he earned a degree in business management, Edwards headed to the United States West Coast. Intrigue led him to Tinsel Town. “Filmmaking has always been a vision of mine. Now, is it an easy industry to break in? Being a working actor is infinitely more difficult and being a successful working actor is harder than that,” he said.
Since his move to Los Angeles, Edwards has had roles in the HBO drama ‘Ballers’ as well as the 2020 comedy, ‘She Ball’, which starred Nick Cannon, Cedric The Entertainer and Chris Brown.
