Amidst the gloom that hung over Jamaica in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, there have been stories of empathy and resilience. An example of that is ‘Have A Little Faith’, a multi-artist song that topped the South Florida Reggae Chart for four weeks.
Released in February, it features Leroy Sibbles, Carlene Davis, J C Lodge, Gem Myers, Dwisdom, Glen Washington, Wayne Armond, Alecia Marie, Carl McDonald and Patrick Ulysees Pinkney.
Stewart, former drummer with the Third World band, wrote ‘Have A Little Faith’. He co-produced it with Sean Wedderburn and is co-executive producer with Steve Lane.
“Being number one for over three weeks is a feeling that it is time to find our faith within, not to give up,” said Stewart. “Keep the fire of hope burning alive, no matter what you are going through. Health issues, financial issues, work issues. Whatever it is, just don’t give up on hope and your dreams and you will pull through.”
Watching the devastation caused by the Category 5 hurricane via social media from his South Florida home, the veteran musician was moved to write a song saluting the courage of his countrymen.
After composing ‘Have A Little Faith’, Stewart assembled a formidable cast of artists to express solace for their affected compatriots.
“I must thank everyone involved in this production for their time and effort and support. This song carries a simple, but heartfelt message that the world can relate to,” he said.
Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica on October 28. It caused 45 deaths and billions of dollars in damage to infrastructure, farms and hospitals.
