Empress LehLeh, born Hilary Jeffers, is quickly establishing herself as one of Canada’s most promising female singers in the reggae/dancehall genre. Her latest video release, ‘Still Wasn’t Me’ featuring Plankydon, showcases her exceptional skills and undeniable talent.
Growing up in a Christian household in Rexdale, Ontario, Hilary’s musical journey began within the walls of the church. She honed her singing abilities by leading younger children in song as a youth leader. However, due to fear of judgment and shyness, Hilary never ventured outside of her comfort zone to pursue her musical talent.
Everything changed in 2015 when she met King Planky, who was actively pursuing music. Planky’s encouragement and support allowed Hilary to fully embrace her God-given talent and step into the reggae/dancehall world. Under Planky’s guidance, she adopted the stage name Empress LehLeh, which perfectly captures her blossoming musical prowess.
Her collaboration with Planky on the track ‘Something About Your Love’ marked a turning point in her career. This led LehLeh to write her first single, ‘I’m A Woman’, and subsequently release her debut mixtape, ‘Just Press Play’, in 2019. LehLeh’s music has garnered attention and recognition, earning her performances on prominent platforms such as The Buss, The Showcase, Stages, and the esteemed Kingston Festival, where she shared the stage with renowned artists like Popcaan, Shenseea, ChronicLaw, and Skillibeng.
Empress LehLeh’s latest single, ‘Priceless’, has been receiving airplay on notable stations like Vybz105.5 in Canada and StylzFM Radio in Jamaica, further solidifying her presence in the music industry. Alongside Planky, LehLeh co-founded STRIKE1PRODUCTION, an independent record label that not only produces their own music but also supports fellow artists.
Looking ahead, Empress LehLeh aspires for STRIKE1PRODUCTION to become a household name, both at home and abroad. She remains committed to pushing the boundaries of her musical abilities while also immersing herself in the business side of the industry. With her unwavering dedication and undeniable talent, Empress LehLeh is undoubtedly a rising star to watch in the reggae/dancehall scene.
