Elihu Morris Drops Debut Album

It took 10 years of work, but singer Elihu Morris has finally released his first album. ‘Broken Silence’ is the title of the set which he co-produced with bassist Andrew “Bassie” Campbell.

The duo, who first collaborated in 1989, also co-produced ‘The Evolution of Courtney Morris’, the Boston-based artist’s 2010 EP.

“Di journey brings so much experience, so there’s so much to share in these songs. Wi wanted to give di people something dat’s different than what’s out there,” said Morris.

Several of the songs on ‘Broken Silence’ have been released, including the title track, ‘I Need You Jah’, ‘All Who Can’t Feel’ and ‘On Your Side of Town’.

Campbell, who was a member of Junior Reid’s One Blood Band for several years, led the recording sessions for ‘Broken Silence’. Veteran keyboardist Franklin “Bubbler” Waul, drummer Kush McAnuff and Dalton Browne also played on the album.

Morris lived in the Craig Town area (birthplace of The Shocking Vibes Crew) area of Kingston, before migrating to the United States during the 1980s. He launched his career that decade, first working with Campbell on the song, ‘How You So Cold’.

Some of the songs from the recording sessions that produced ‘The Evolution of Courtney Morris’, are also on ‘Broken Silence’ which Morris says has messages meant for misguided youth, community development and global peace.
