Western Canada’s reggae scene is gaining global momentum, and at the center of it is Skystar, whose meteoric rise from regional standout to international contender is reshaping Canada’s reggae story.
The Edmonton-based artist earned a breakthrough in 2025 with his first JUNO nomination in the Best Reggae Recording category at the Juno Awards. That same year, his single “Karma” captured the Top Fusion single (male) honour at the Reggae North Music Awards in Toronto, marking the start of a rapid ascent.
Now, in 2026, Skystar has emerged as one of the most influential reggae artists in Western Canada, driven by international chart success, major festival appearances, and growing industry recognition across multiple markets.
His latest album has posted impressive global results, topping iTunes Reggae charts in Norway and landing at No. 2 in Ireland, No. 5 in the United Kingdom, No. 3 in the Virgin Islands, No. 9 in Nepal, No. 4 in Canada, and No. 7 in Japan — a rare feat for a Canadian reggae artist.
Domestically, Skystar continues to dominate. His single “Wheel & Come Again” currently sits at No. 2 on the Reggae North Canadian Top 20 chart and previously climbed to No. 2 on the Rebel Vibez Top 10 Canadian Reggae chart.
Streaming and social metrics underscore the surge. Skystar has surpassed 1.13 million streams, built a following of more than 38,000 fans, and secured placements on over 21 playlists with a combined reach of 256,000 listeners. His audience continues to grow across Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
On stage, the artist is expanding his live footprint with appearances at marquee events such as the Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival. Anticipation is also building for his upcoming “Intimacy” concert series, set for February 28 in Edmonton — already being touted as one of the hottest tickets in Western Canada.
Industry observers increasingly view Skystar as a defining voice for Canadian reggae on the global stage, a role that reflects both his growing reach and the genre’s evolving presence beyond traditional strongholds.
Reflecting on his journey, Skystar described the moment as both humbling and affirming.
“Watching my music career move forward feels surreal and grounding at the same time,” he said. “The long nights, quiet sacrifices, and moments of doubt are finally turning into real momentum. Every step forward reminds me that the grind has meaning and that I’m growing into who I’m meant to be.”
